Import from Letterboxd

Import your Letterboxd history

Export your data from Letterboxd and add the ZIP here. Watched films, star ratings, diary dates and your watchlist are read; films only, since Letterboxd does not track series.

Get your file

  1. On Letterboxd, open Settings, then the Data tab, and choose Export your data.

  2. Letterboxd prepares a ZIP and gives you the download. Keep it as it is, without unzipping it.

  3. Let's Mark reads four files from inside it: watched.csv, ratings.csv, diary.csv and watchlist.csv. Reviews, lists and everything else are ignored.

  4. Sign in, choose the ZIP below and check the counts. Press Start import when they look right.

Upload it

Create a free account or sign in, then come back here: the upload box appears on this page. Nothing leaves your browser until you press Start import.

    Watched titles

    Every film in watched.csv.

  • No

    Episode progress

Letterboxd tracks films only, so there are no episodes to bring.

  • Yes

    Watch dates

A diary entry gives the date you watched. Rewatches count as extra viewings.

watchlist.csv comes in as plan to watch.

    Custom lists

Your own lists are in the export but are not read.

Reviews and comments are not read.

How titles are matched

Letterboxd gives a name, a year and its own link, but no film number the catalogue shares. A film is added only when the catalogue has one with exactly that name and, when the file has a year, a release year within one year of it. Films that do not match, such as a title spelled differently, are listed after the import so you can add them by hand.

Safe to run, safe to repeat

The file is opened in your browser, and only titles, dates and ratings are sent, a few at a time. Account tokens and IP addresses in an export are never uploaded. An import never overwrites: what is already on your list keeps its progress, dates and ratings, so running it twice changes nothing. It is free.

Questions

Do I need to unzip the Letterboxd export?
No. Choose the ZIP as it is; Let's Mark opens it in your browser and reads only the four files that say what you watched. You can also pick the CSV files from inside it.
Does it bring my reviews and lists?
Not yet. Watched films, ratings, diary dates and the watchlist are read; reviews, comments and your own lists stay behind.
A film did not match. Why?
Letterboxd identifies a film by its own page, not by a number the catalogue shares, so the name has to match exactly. Films with a differently spelled or retitled name are listed after the import; find them in search and add them by hand.
Do my half-star ratings survive?
They are rounded up to a whole star out of five: 3.5 becomes four stars. Let's Mark rates in whole stars.
