Import from IMDb
Import your IMDb ratings and watchlist
Export your ratings and your watchlist from IMDb and add the CSV files here. Films and series are matched by their IMDb id and your ratings are kept.
Get your files
On IMDb, open Your ratings and use the Export option in the menu at the top of the list.
Do the same for your watchlist, and for any custom list you want: open it and choose Export this list.
Each one downloads as a
.csvfile. Leave them as they are; theConstcolumn holds the IMDb id that matches a title.Sign in, choose the files below (both at once is fine) and check the counts. Press Start import when they look right.
Upload it
Create a free account or sign in, then come back here: the upload box appears on this page. Nothing leaves your browser until you press Start import.
What comes across
- Yes
Watched titles
Everything on your ratings list: films, TV movies, specials, shorts and series.
- No
Episode progress
IMDb's export has no episode progress. A rated series is added as watching, because the file does not say how far you got.
- Partly
Watch dates
For films, the date you rated is used as the date you watched. Series get no episode dates.
- Yes
Ratings
Your 1-10 rating becomes 1-5 stars, rounded up. A rating you already have here is never replaced.
- Yes
Watchlist
Titles in the watchlist file come in as plan to watch.
- Partly
Custom lists
A custom list exports like the watchlist and is read the same way, as plan to watch; its name is not kept.
- No
Comments and reviews
Reviews are not part of the ratings and list files.
How titles are matched
Every row carries an IMDb id (tt and digits), so a title is matched by that and not by its name, and the catalogue decides whether it is a film or a series. Episodes, video games, podcasts and anything else that is not a film or a series are left out, and the page tells you how many. Ids the catalogue does not know are listed after the import.
Safe to run, safe to repeat
The file is opened in your browser, and only titles, dates and ratings are sent, a few at a time. Account tokens and IP addresses in an export are never uploaded. An import never overwrites: what is already on your list keeps its progress, dates and ratings, so running it twice changes nothing. It is free.
Questions
- Which IMDb files can I use?
- The ratings export, the watchlist export and the export of any custom list. They are CSV files; pick them together or one at a time.
- Why is my 10 out of 10 five stars?
- Let's Mark rates from one to five stars, so IMDb's ten points are halved and rounded up: 9 and 10 both become five stars, 1 and 2 become one.
- Why is a finished series marked as watching?
- IMDb records that you rated a series, not which episodes you saw. Marking it completed would be a guess, so it is added as watching and you can tick episodes or change the status from its page.
- Will it change titles already on my list?
- No. A title already on your list keeps its status, progress and dates; it only gets your IMDb rating if it had none.
