He decides to stay, finds a place to stay in a cheap apartment, gets a job and even strikes up a romance with his landlady. But, pretty soon after things arrival, various mysterious incidents start plagueing the township and Ivan convinces himself that they have something to do with his belated return.

The action takes place in a Bosnian town during the Second World War and shows how anti-fascist illegals try to protect their intelligence network from the Germans and their Ustasha allies.

Based on the novel "Tale" by Dervis Susic. Tale is a former partisan, an honest man and a rogue. His return to hometown immediately creates a bunch of new problems.

The extended version of the eponymous film served as a TV mini-series. The plot is centered in the city of Karlovac in 1992, during the Croatian War of Independence. The front lines, where Croatian and Serbian forces fight each other, lie near the city. Meanwhile, in the city of Karlovac, a Serbian civilian Vasić is murdered. The story follows the local police officer Barbir (Dražen Kühn), who tries to solve the murder in spite of ethnic hatred and war revolving nearby.
