Fate

A writer visits a small island where a saint is about to be canonized, but the saint's icon has no face. Local lore claims that the saint once stepped out of the icon and scandalized the believers before disappearing. The writer discovers that a painter was commissioned to paint the saint's portrait, but his dissolute lifestyle led the islanders to attribute his actions to the saint. While investigating the truth, the writer dies dramatically, and his body is later found abused. A reporter tries to cover the story but faces resistance from the closed society.
