The rich Olaf Peer suffers from notorious insomnia. In his basement he had an armored vault built in, which also serves as a bedroom. In order to finally be able to sleep, he takes the help of a certain Dr. Castell, who has developed a method to finally get sleep-disturbed people to sleep by means of magnetism. In May 1900 there is a serious fire in which the house is completely destroyed. Since then, Olaf Peer has been considered to have disappeared.
