It’s clear: this amateur theatre company has a long way to go before they can perform their version of "The Insect Play", a famous satirical work from 1922 by the brothers Karel and Josef Čapek which features insects with decidedly human traits: greed, egocentrism, jealousy.

In the snowy Giant Mountains at the end of the German occupation, a group of child heroes rescue a downed French pilot. He longs to control his own life again. And his solution is escape from the present life. In this movie we watch, in parallel ,the fates of Jan's married daughters Olinka and Alenka and his sons-in-law Erik and Pepík.

The ambulance doctor František moves away from his wife Bohuna to his new love Helena. She has been married for several years to the successful writer Karl. However, thanks to her husband's philandering, she was by no means happy in it. It seems that František and Helena are finally waiting for peaceful days and now, on the threshold of fifty, they will finally be able to experience their satisfied love. However, their enthusiasm is not shared by their past partners.

Captain Vašátko of the criminal police and Horác, a painter, bohemian, and amateur detective, are searching for the murderer of Daniela Jásková, an emancipated young woman who excelled at her job and also excelled at changing lovers. When she is found strangled in her apartment, Vašátko's team begins an investigation. His fiancée, actress Klára Knabelová, discovers during the investigation that the head, hands, and heart were removed from the body after death. In her search for answers to this mystery, she encounters the colonel's closest associate, Lieutenant Heinrich Roth, and fate brings them together. Military investigator Karel Vrana tries to persuade Klára to cooperate against Roth and occult circles within the army. Klára refuses, but expresses her support for Vrana's goal of finding the stolen parts of the colonel's body. Meanwhile, Lieutenant Roth is called to the battlefield of World War I, and Vrana sets out across Europe to search for von Haukwitz's remains, which are being used by occult groups. Klára moves to her family farm in Moravia, where she receives another part of the body—the hand of the wounded Lieutenant Roth.

The real fate of Jiří Arvéd Smíchovský, a prominent hermeticist, occultist, believer in black magic and an exceptionally well-educated person with a brilliant memory. This avid book lover had doctorates in law, theology and philosophy and was fluent in five languages. He was interested in occult teachings, practiced magical ceremonies, was in contact with the Freemasons, but at the same time he was a member of the National Fascist Community while being homosexual. During the war he cooperated with the Nazis, after the war with the communist StB.

The story takes place in the small town of Podlesie, which was once invaded by the Turks. The good fairies were - in good faith - asked for help, but it consisted in hurting others. This has not brought happiness to the town, and it needs to be put right... Perhaps the young blacksmith's nephew Tonko will succeed.

Based on real characters and events, this haunting drama focuses on the personal sacrifice of a Prague history student, Jan Palach, who set himself on fire in protest against the Soviet occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1969. Dagmar Burešová, a young female lawyer, became part of his legacy by defending Jan's family in a trial against the communist government, a regime which tried to dishonour Palach’s sacrifice, a heroic action for the freedom of Czechoslovakia.

Alex Plan, a school ombudsman, strives for fair solutions for everyone, often going against the grain of the system and established practices. He advocates for people experiencing problems in education and tackles issues such as teacher murder and student sexual harassment.
