The corpse of a woman is found in front of Maria’s apartment window. She agrees to take charge of the funeral, becoming involved in her neighbour’s existence. Maria adopts the woman’s unattended dogs and forms a bond with her estranged son. After the burial, Maria tries to reclaim her own life back, but a haunting feeling lingers.

Sibiu, December 1989. In the chaos and panic generated by the protests of the crowd against the authorities, a unit of the militia becomes the target of a violent assault that escalates into a bloody confrontation between soldiers, militiamen, security agents, and civilians. Trying to escape the siege, Captain Viorel of the militia is captured and accused of being a terrorist.

In a Transylvanian village, Barbu appears to lead a simple life with Mara and their son, Codrin. Yet, beneath this quiet surface lies an identity he spent years trying to bury. When he intervenes in a robbery, his face appears on television, and the people he fled from track him down.
