Set during the 1960s in the fictional North Yorkshire village of Aidensfield, this enduringly popular series interweaves crime and medical storylines.

Jack Frost is a gritty, dogged and unconventional detective with sympathy for the underdog and an instinct for moral justice who attracts trouble like a magnet. Despite some animosity with his superintendent, Norman “Horn-rimmed Harry” Mullett, Frost and his ever-changing roster of assistants manage to solve cases via his clever mind, good heart, and cool touch.

It's the summer of 1907, and cinema is in its infancy. In a northern industrial town two very different movie moguls are battling for the hearts, minds and purses of the local population. Frank Sheringham is an enterprising filmmaker determined to woo audiences away from the local flea-pit run by the villainous Albert Gold. The whole town becomes involved in the vendetta and three local children are at the eye of the storm.

This is a dramatisation of the real-life investigation into the notorious Yorkshire Ripper murders of the late 1970s, showing the effect that it had on the health and career of Assistant Chief Constable George Oldfield who led the enquiry.

Rebellious and irreverent, Captain Jack is a man on a mission. Come hell or high water, he's determined to follow in the footsteps of Whitby's unsung hero, Captain Scoresby, who set sail from the town bound for the Arctic in the 18th Century. Assembling a crew of oddballs and misfits, the cantankerous captain weighs anchor and voyages into the unknown. His ship has been certified unseaworthy, and he's pursued by the Royal Navy, NATO and journalists, but nothing is going to stop Captain Jack fulfilling his wildest dream.
