In addition to running as a Republican Party candidate, D'Amelio cross-filed to run with the Independent Party in 2018. D'Amelio was previously a Republican candidate for at-large representative on the Norwalk Public Schools Board of Education in Connecticut. D'Amelio was defeated in the at-large general election on November 7, 2017.
