Maria do Carmo is the main character of the telenovela; a mother of five who struggle to be successful in life, but whose most important will be recovering the love of her daughter who was kidnapped when she was just months old.

Helena is a sweet, honest, sensitive and a warrior woman who faces the premature pregnancy of her daughter Joyce, who in turn is abandoned by her boyfriend, the irresponsible Caio. The biggest problem is the girl's father, Assunção, Helena's ex-husband, who does not accept the situation. Lonely and alone, Helena awakens a passion for the endocrinologist Carlos Alberto, and has her feelings matched. But Carlos is committed to the possessive Paula. The girl's parents, Zuleika and Rômulo, anxiously await their daughter's wedding with Carlos, who will save the family from financial decay. The story begins with the arrival of millionaire Antônio Carlos Volpone in Brazil. To mislead his enemies and move freely, Volpone uses numerous disguises: the executive Anabela Freire, the doctor Nilo Peixe, the industrialist Augusto Melo Sampaio, and the driver André Silva. With the help of his loyal secretary and friend, Mosca, he confronts his main rival, Orlando Aranha, and Renata, Orlando's sister, who holds secrets about the murder of Estela's father.

Helena is an independendent woman with strong emotions. More than a dedicated mother, she is also a friend to her daughter. The plot takes place in a fictional city called Vale do Café, where two powerful families, the Toledo and Fontes, are locked in an intense dispute for power and land ownership. Conflicts are marked by betrayals, forbidden loves and dark secrets. The soap opera addresses themes such as ambition, revenge, romance and conflicts between families, showing the fire that consumes the land and human relationships.

The experience completely transforms Floriano's life, and he decides to abandon everything, including his girlfriend Antônia, to pursue his past.

Facing a financial crisis, Guilherme receives an ultimatum: he must pay his overdue rent within 24 hours or face eviction from the Copacabana apartment—located in Rio de Janeiro's South Zone—where he lives with his family: his wife Joana, his children Kika, Beto, and Tatá, and his father Olavo. Left with no other option, they move into a large house in São Cristóvão (in the North Zone) lent to them by Joaquim, a Portuguese friend. The family struggles to adapt to the suburban neighborhood and cope with their lack of money. To overcome the crisis, Guilherme becomes a partner in Joaquim's auto repair shop.
