A harsh dose of cinematic realism about a harsh time – the Bosnian War of the 1990s – Juanita Wilson's drama is taken from true stories revealed during the International Criminal Tribunal in The Hague. Samira is a modern schoolteacher in Sarajevo who takes a job in a small country village just as the war is beginning to ramp up. When Serbian soldiers overrun the village, shoot the men and keep the women as laborers (the older ones) and sex objects (the younger ones), Samira is subjected to the basest form of treatment imaginable.

An alcoholic Bosnian poet sends his wife and daughter away from Sarajevo so they can avoid the troubles there. However, he is soon descended upon by a pair of orphaned brothers. The brothers have escaped a massacre in their own village and have come to the Bosnian capital in search of a long lost Aunt. The poet befriends the boys and together they try to survive the horror of the siege of Sarajevo.

Tarik lives alone and works in the warehouse of a supermarket. He's lonely and kills time hanging around with two colleagues. New worker comes to the small shop next to the supermarket. Zan happens to be Senad's best friend and is working in the theater as a clown in the production, "Flying Tours of Duty." His girlfriend Senka is working in a hospital but has no time for love. Dejected Senad returns to his flat, only to find it has been demolished by the war. Zan invites Senad to live together with him, his wife and Senka. The rest of the film recounts the tragic events that befall the group and how they face up to them.

The main protagonists of the film are members of the gypsy family Mirga. Lutvija Belmondo Mirga narrates a story about four generations. Belmondo is the central character of the film, a gypsy king, who decided to establish his own gypsy village. He names it Shanghai. Belmondo makes a living smuggling and his power and influence grow big. He even gets the local police and politics on his side and that helps him to become untouchable for law. But with the downfall of Yugoslavia, smuggling of goods is replaced by smuggling of the arms. Though lucrative the business starts to threaten Belmondo’s personal life and he finds himself at the crossroads. Will he protect his own family or is he going to sacrifice his personal happiness for business ambitions?

As the city celebrates the holidays, a woman who has devoted her life to others seeks a sense of self-worth, but after a humiliating encounter with a stranger, she realizes she has no one to return to except her ailing mother.

At the top of the rugged Bosnian mountain, young shepherd Mehmed patiently watches over his cows and lovingly carves the figure of a woman in a piece of wood. Almost on cue, a novice paraglider unexpectedly falls from the sky. One of the first post-Independence Bosnian sitcoms. Production started on June 22, 2001 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The final episode was filmed in Sarajevo on August 25, 2008 and aired in October. It eventually became one of the region's most popular sitcoms.
