Caught in the stranglehold of debt and structural adjustment, Africa is fighting for its survival. In the face of disaster, representatives of African society bring an action against international financial institutions. The trial takes place in Bamako, in the yard of a house, among its inhabitants.

During a time of political upheaval in Brazil, two strangers meet by coincidence in a foreign land and end up caught in the middle of a gem smuggling ring.

Max wakes up one morning and discovers that his wife Hélène has left him in his sleep, without a word, taking their two children with her. He doesn't understand. The nights drag on, his demons get involved, he chooses to face them and to anchor himself in reality. He probes his feelings, revisits from top to bottom the artifice of his life. Max ends up rediscovering his love for Hélène and decides to win her back. But isn't it already too late?

He visits their mother, who still lives in Kinshasa, and their father in Lisbon, as well as the extended family in France and Belgium. His search even takes him to Cambodia where Max was spotted. This fiction film is based on, and uses, the filmmaker's own family.

The district commander decides to use it to the fullest, entrusting her with very complex investigations which have remained unsolved to date.
