Seventeen-year-old tennis player Katya is forced to give up the sport. Her family has no money, no connections, and not even the will to fight for her dream of making it in the world of professional sports. Now, tennis has become a means of survival for her. Pretending to be a beginner, Katya goes to private tennis courts in Moscow, beats wealthy amateurs, and earns money. A former professional athlete, Igor Strelnikov—a frustrated coach who has long dreamed of finding a truly gifted student—witnesses one of these matches. Upon seeing Katya, he realizes she is that very raw diamond and his chance to return to the world of professional sports.
