The Three Investigators want to go on a road trip. But just as Justus Jonas, Peter Shaw and Bob Andrews are about to set off, the phone rings and an unknown caller gives the detective trio their latest case. The three boys follow the clues and come across the secret society Sphinx, led by the mysterious Professor Phoenix. His group of archaeologists is conducting illegal excavations and selling the stolen art treasures. Sphinx is soon to embark on an expedition to the active volcanic island of Makatao, also known as the Island of the Dead. The resting place of an ancient people located there is said to be cursed. Why is Sphinx embarking on such a daring journey?
