Successful London doctor Leslie Cramer travels to rural Scarborough to visit her grandmother Fiona and attend the engagement party of her childhood friend Gwen. The sleepy provincial town is in a state of turmoil following the gruesome murder of a student. The police are frantically searching for the perpetrator. Meanwhile, Fiona, who is older, seems to be plagued by severe feelings of guilt related to a dark secret from her youth. Leslie has no idea how much this secret has shaped her own life. The tense situation escalates. After a heated argument at Gwen's engagement party, another murder occurs.
