Baron von Rodern has a daughter named Meta who will soon be under the hood. But the old man has clearly defined ideas about the husband-to-be, because he has to be able to take on Meta, a “crazy chicken” as he calls her. And therefore, according to the nobleman, only a real “bon vivant” with a lot of experience comes into question. But Meta's love, the staunch Lieutenant Fritz von Gernsdorff, does not correspond to this idea at all. In order to feel the chosen one on the tooth, Baron von Rodern travels to Vienna without further ado to take a close look at Lieutenant Fritz. "First the pleasure, then the duty" thinks the strict Mr. Papa and empties one or the other bottle of champagne with the brisk soubrette of a cabaret before the test procedure with the lieutenant can begin. Meta suspects bad things and asks her aunt, her father's sister, to accompany her to Vienna in order to instruct Fritz accordingly so that he will not allow himself to make any mistakes during the questioning by the father.
