Under the pretence of creating a better future for his impecunious wife and his young only son, an insensitive father cruelly abandons his family in high hopes of striking it rich. Under those circumstances--and as the days turn into weeks, which turn into months without news of him--the brave boy decides to take matters into his own hands, and support the family by working as a cobbler's apprentice.
