Anna, coming from a poor family and with a brother in prison for murder, marries Dimitris, the eldest son of Antonis Razi, the village's wealthy landowner. Everything seems fine until Razi’s second son, Kostas—who has squandered his share of the family fortune and is being pursued for debts—returns to the village with Jenny, a folk singer.
