After the accidental death of her husband, the fifty-something Élisabeth Massot, ex-lawyer, returns to service, but as an examining magistrate. In addition to the affairs entrusted to her, she has to grapple with the problems of daily life and in particular her relationship with her son Guillaume. Fortunately, she is well surrounded: she can count on her clerk, Nicolas, who helps her in her professional investigations, and on her old friend, Me Deroche.
