De Kleine Waarheid

“De Kleine Waarheid” or Little Truth tells the life story of Marleen Spaargaren. She’s an Amsterdam girl living with her mother Martje, father Jacobus and little brother Eppo. Marleen longs for freedom and independence of her bourgeoisie family. She runs off with Jan Engelmoer who she marries at a very young age. But when they remain childless, she is inconsolable. She goes on trying to get pregnant without her husband knowing.
