Wege übers Land

The five-part television film describes the turbulent fate of the young maid Gertrud Habersaat during the war and post-war chaos in Germany. After marrying Emil Kalluweit, her fate takes her to Poland, where they experience the horror of deportation and murder. There they adopt a Jewish girl and a Polish boy. Shortly afterwards, her husband volunteers for the front. After the war, when her husband never returns, she returns to her home village with the children and initially finds work on her old farm. On her own, she manages to build up the second largest farm in the village in a very short time. But when collectivization begins, Gertrud is outraged. She does not want to give up her farm.
