We are at the turn of the century. Everyone in the Koltay family knows their two daughters in the sales line and the indebted teacher that they have a millionaire American uncle. The uncle stumbles in unexpectedly and turns out to be a beggar, but he doesn’t have time to report that. The family's lawyer, Jenő Szekeres, arranges so that no one knows this.
