Nikolai and Peter have been friends since childhood and are in love with the same girl - Anna. The girl marries Peter, and Nikolai is forced to come to terms with this. To earn money, friends are hired on a fishing boat. Peter dies at sea. Nikolai returns home and becomes a support for a young widow and the little son of a deceased friend. A few years later, Anna agrees to marry Nikolai. They live peacefully and happily until they meet another happy couple: the girl Irena and her husband, in whom Anna and Nikolai immediately recognize Peter. With amazement, they realize that Peter does not recognize them: he does not remember the past, and the chance that he will remember is zero...
