Every evening at 6:45 p.m. sharp, a prominent guest takes a seat on the red sofa—and DAS! provides daily updates on what's hot in the north.

The show was meant to compete with those on West German television. To this end it was fairly successful even attracting a following in parts of West Germany which could receive Eastern TV. Its production values were high. Apart from song and dance numbers and appearances from East German celebrities, almost every broadcast featured well-known stars from the west, often after their popularity had peaked in their home countries.

A "children's birthday party" for adults. Each show featured a celebrity guest who had to take part in crazy, silly and often deliberately "moronic" games. Both presenters had to compete against the respective guest in various games.

A batch of more or less known celebrities, ready to expose themselves to a large amount of viewers, have to spend about two weeks in an Australian jungle camp. Each day, the viewers vote for the celebrity they would like to face a difficult task and later vote for their favorite to become the “Queen” or “King of the Jungle”. Heinz Strunk, plagued by crater-like skin rashes, lives with his sick mother in Hamburg-Harburg in the 1980s. As a saxophonist, he tours the North German lowlands with the dance combo "Tiffanys". In this bizarre universe of Korn, Klaus & Klaus and Koteletts, bandleader Gurki teaches him how to deliver cheerful, upbeat music. To escape the vicious circle of shooting festivals and village weddings, Heinz wants to start a solo career and become a hit producer...

In Cologne, a park bench ends up in the Rhine and floats with the flow - until one day it finally ends up in Langeoog. She is found on the beach by Gerold (Gerold Oltmanns) and his friends Wilhelm (Wilhelm Nessen) and Fokke (Marcel Willms) also join her after a short time. The three friends make it their mission to find the original owner of the bank.
