Peter is just another "peter", so very ordinary. He works in an office where colleagues make fun of him and the boss makes sexual advances. His sick mother harasses him at home. Bit by bit his life becomes completely unbearable. Once, by chance, Peter happens to try magic mushrooms and this adventure turns into a move towards a different life.

Young Emil lives with his parents and younger sister on a small farm. Emil's kindness and energy make him interfere with everything around him, but the results are usually not what he intended.

Latvia. The end of the 19th century. In a corner of a parish on the shore of a lake, two families live side by side. The Dievlodziņi and the Vilkači. With a long-standing hatred in their relations. However, the essence is completely different. The Vilkači people, being Christians, have not forgotten the ancient traditions and customs of the Latvian people, which are rooted in human life, not separating themselves from nature.

Markuss must adapt to a new life living with his granny in the countryside. After Emīlija – a neighbor’s daughter – throws some contemptuous remarks about the boy’s father, the boy decides to teach her a cruel lesson. This has severely negative consequences which resonate throughout the village. The only person Markuss can relate to is an old sailor living in the nearby woods. Trying to make a professional impression, the teacher of the 9th grade Dārta organises a parents' school meeting, but the parents' childish behaviour turns the gathering into a disaster, becoming the biggest challenge of Dārta's career so far.
