Éva, the young, wild girl, the "wild rose", who was raised by her grandfather, Uncle Ábris, on the country estate, runs away from marriage to her father, the famous divorce lawyer Sándor Sziráky, in Budapest. A reckless young woman has her driving license withdrawn, drives home anyway and gets involved in a traffic accident. Realizing this was a little over the top she decides that she has to flee the country. Carola Lorm, a celebrated revue star from South America, is not thrilled that her daughter Barbara wants to marry a young man from Hamburg. The weather there is just as chilly as the father-in-law-to-be, who turns out to be a snooty Hanseatic fruit merchant. When Carola follows the runaway couple to Germany, she also gets caught up in an intrigue involving drug smugglers. But with the help of an amorous detective, she is able to put a stop to the scoundrels and trick the ossified father-in-law into changing his mind.

The young emperor Joseph II of Austria and Hungary is not interested in romance and marriage, and every time his mother makes arrangements for him to meet eligible young ladies, he escapes under some pretense. This time he is off on a 'tour of inspection' with his trusted friend von Kleber. Things become complicated when von Kleber, pretending to be the emperor so as to protect the real Joseph from discovery, falls in love with Christine, the landlady of their lodgings. And when Christine later writes to the emperor, her letter is read by the mother of the real emperor, as keen as ever to see him getting married, and so the lady is invited to the imperial court.

The French ballet girl Janine, a gifted tap-dancer, dreams of a musical career in Paris. But first she wants to take revenge on Count René who stood up her best friend Charlotte. Janine wants him to fall in love with her and disappoint him afterwards. At a masked ball at which Janine pretends to be a Marquise they have their first meeting. Janine is very disappointed in the "good gentleman", but she does not suspect that this gentleman also makes a pretence. The man whom she holds to be count René is Pierre, a composer and pianist.

Operetta star Ulrich Hansen wants to return to his original profession as a doctor and announces his engagement to Regine Röders, the daughter of an industrialist, at his farewell performance. His stage partner and former girlfriend, Ilonka, isn't about to accept his decision to marry another woman without a fight. Jealous, she hatches a plan to prevent the wedding. Ulrich and Regine marry as planned and go on their honeymoon to Venice. Ilonka follows the newlyweds to Venice with her new admirer, Gustav Säuerling, and continues to try to break them up.

In Königswald Castle, eight noble old ladies and their maid are waiting for the end of World War II. Princess Ursela has made arrangements with her grandmother, the Countesses Hohenlohe, Dohna, Posadowsky, and Woronzoff, as well as Baroness Schweinitz and Baroness von Boehme. The Americans are advancing on the castle from one side, while the Russians are approaching from the other. Suddenly, however, Wehrmacht soldiers barricade themselves in the castle to defend it. But the old ladies do not want to be defended, lest they risk the destruction of their beloved castle. So they hatch a crazy plan to get rid of the German soldiers...
