Hans Brugger, a young engineer, wants to build a ski jump in an Alpine winter sports resort. The townspeople are enthusiastic about the project, hoping it will boost tourism, and consequently donate a large portion of the necessary construction funds. Only one villager refuses to participate: the owner of the local restaurant, the “Alpenhof,” is opposed to the idea.

As a consequence, he is put under surveillance, and even imprisoned for a brief period of time. Still remaining outspoken, Harras realizes the horrific dimensions of this hopeless and injust war waged by Germany.

It was a success in particular in Germany and in France. Originally the show was a German production in black-and-white but it evolved into a European co-production in colour.

In fact, his brother travels to the Royal Falkon Hotel in Maidenhead and rents a room there.
