Little Rita has a dream: she dreams of a better world and she believes that all the evil in the world originates from gold. So she has decided to blow up all the gold she can put her hands on. In her mission she is assisted by the Indian Chief Bisonte Seduto and by her friend Francis. Little Rita kills Ringo and Django, but she is taken prisoner by the Mexican bandit Sancho who wants to steal her gold. Black Star rescues her and seems determined to help her, but does he?

In a landscape of fields and ruins, a group of figures move together, humble and mythical, poetic and popular. They are the characters of a Don Quixote reconstructed within multiple temporal dimensions and different imaginary horizons. Armed with a shield and spear as well as a profound knowledge of 20th-century literature, the Hidalgo of La Mancha comes back to life among pylons and wind turbines, unfinished buildings and archaic sculptures, accompanied by an ironic and sly Sancho Panza. Entrenched with courage in a crazy vision of the world and art, populated by angelic women and storytelling magicians, the knight errant comes to meet death and accept the inevitable mediocrity of reality.

Geppetto the carpenter carves the object of his hidden desires out of a log: a puppet that will keep him company and will be like a son to him. He will call him Pinocchio. Imagine his surprise when he discovers that the puppet moves, as if by magic, and is gifted with a life on its own.

In the film he explores that impossible similarity, complicated and remarkable, which helped him understand his uncle’s disability. As he observes his daily life, Lucio Dalla comes back, singing of loneliness, anger, and freedom.

A fig tree growing in the estates of Baron Anteo Pellacani has been worshipped since the Middle Ages, after a Saint was supposedly martyred there. The Baron, who was crippled in a fig tree-related accident and has since become a raging atheist, vows to tear it down—until he mistakes a beautiful prostitute momentarily lying on the tree for the Saint herself, falling in love with her. Her pimp, his relatives and the clergy try to take advantage of his newfound faith.

Anna is the personal secretary of a rich industrialist who falls in love with her boss' daughter's leftist boyfriend, Carlo. Anna pretty much severs her ties with her boss (who she also had romantic moments with) and after she moves in with the college student Carlo she attempts to provide for both, but soon fails in finding job opportunities and sinks into the sleazy world of drugs and prostitution. Carlo's right wing brother demands Carlo begins his relationship with daughter of the powerful businessman in order to guarantee financial freedom for the rest of his life.

Various undesirables and hippie drifters are invited to the luxury, ultra-modern country home of Dr. Antonio and his wife; when they begin to vanish, it becomes clear that something sinister — and deadly — is afoot.

The film combines actual footage of Communist leader Palmiero Togliatti's funeral with the intermingled stories of four people affected by his death: Ettore, a Venezuelan radical who abandons the wealthy Italian woman he loves to go back to his country and help his cause; Ludovico, an ailing filmmaker who finds out that art alone is not enough; Giulia, a woman who embarks upon a lesbian affair with a former mistress of her husband; and Ermanno, a philosophy graduate who breaks up with his past.
