Ten Minutes Older is a 2002 film project consisting of two compilation feature films entitled The Trumpet and The Cello. The project was conceived by the producer Nicolas McClintock as a reflection on the theme of time at the turn of the Millennium. Fifteen celebrated film-makers were invited to create their own vision of what time means in ten minutes of film.

A policewoman named Lu Yueyue investigates a stolen national treasure and eventually ends up in a fight with gangsters. At the same time, she is trying to deal with a complicated romantic relationship and family conflict. The film is based on a 1995 television series that made mainland actress-director Xu Jinglei well-known throughout China.

After graduating from the police academy, Qin Chuan and his friends return to their hometown as police officers, determined to pursue their dream of becoming detectives. Despite challenges, Qin Chuan’s career takes off when he proves his courage in a critical situation. Under the guidance of his superiors, he grows into a skilled detective, facing the weight of his responsibilities and the realities of the job.

When a foreign spy organization sabotages China-U.S. peace talks through assassination and tech theft, National Security officer Yang Guang launches a covert investigation. As he closes in on the culprits, a mysterious woman frames him, forcing Yang to fight for both justice and his innocence in a deadly game of espionage.

In the 1960s, Feng Cheng and Qin Xuemei join a large forestry project in Saihanba, becoming part of a generation that spends decades transforming the desert into a forest.
