Two sisters struggle to get out of a Buenos Aires suburb, where debts with a loan shark have kept them apart. But soon the inhabitants of the neighborhood forget their differences before the appearance of an epidemic.

Renzo, a Gypsy, falls madly in love with Dolores, a young woman facing an unhappy and difficult family situation. After her mother's death, Dolores is left alone with her nanny and her brother Humberto, a man of weak character. Renzo’s love is returned by Dolores, but the couple's future is threatened by a villain named Rodolfo Farnesio—a wealthy, powerful man accustomed to getting whatever he wants. Farnesio becomes completely obsessed with Dolores's stunning beauty and begins to woo her, determined to make her his wife.
