Adapted from the best-seller, the films is a road movie full of music and poetry, driving us from the hot districts of Marseille, to Paris, Montrealand Dakar. Paulo, the young writer, follows Richard, the old musician, in his wanderings, encounters, love stories and will share his vision of life. Richard transmits to Paulo his crazy and strange experience, opening the door to an enchanting world of passion.

Following a series of unsolved robberies, the authorities decide to give carte blanche to commander Clara Damico to neutralize a particularly organized gang. Manual Makarov, a well-known figure in organized crime, is currently serving a sentence of twelve years in prison. Commander Damico promises him freedom in exchange for his cooperation. He refuses. There is no other solution, she is obliged to compel him by force.

The film is also punctuated by the memories of famous musicians such as Manu Dibango as well as by the singer's successes and his live performances (L'Olympia, L'Arche de Noé).
