The plot revolves around Bernard – a schoolfriend of Olivier's who is preparing for his bac – discovering he is a bastard and taking this as a welcome pretext for running away from home. After Bernard steals the suitcase belonging to Edouard, Olivier's uncle, and the ensuing complications, he is made Edouard's secretary. Olivier is jealous and ends up in the hands of the cynical and downright diabolical Comte de Passavant, who travels with him to the Mediterranean.

Maurice Hartmann, a Parisian academic, annoys his young mistress with his cynical and disillusioned words and the void of his existence. The proposal of one of his students upsets his life: the young Kiyoshi offers him to taste his assortment of sushi and sashimi. In front of the delighted face of his teacher, Kiyoshi proposes to him to set up a small business of takeaway sushi for busy Parisians. Enthusiastic, Maurice struggles to find funding, and the "Sushi Express" gets off to a great start. But, after a good start, the small business stagnates ...

"Chez Maupassant" is a French anthology television series based on short stories by Guy de Maupassant. Created by Gérard Jourd'hui and Gaëlle Girre, it ran on France 2 in three seasons in 2007, 2008 and 2011. It consists of a total of 24 episodes of which half are 60 minutes long and half are 30 minutes.
