Jânio Quadros

Brazilian documentary that tells the story of Titãs, the most famous rock band in the country. The film was directed by one of the members, Branco Mello, using images recorded from the early 80's until the present day.

The film, created in exile from 1971 to 1973 between Cuba and Rome, is considered a "semi-finished" work by Glauber Rocha. It has a certain pedagogical character and seeks, through dialectical editing, to conduct a critical review of colonization, class struggle, messianism, and the establishment of populist governments in the Third World. There is a chronology in the events presented, which, supported by extensive iconography (films, engravings, photos, etc.), create "free" associations that allow the viewer a "polyphonic" view of the "History of Brazil."

Documentary about 30 years of Brazilian politics, focusing on ex-president Jânio Quadros, a controversial persona, elected using the broom as a symbol (to sweep away corruption!). For some a pathetic and lunatic figure, for others the great responsible, with his resignation, for the dire events following his successor: the military coup.

Documentary portrays the crisis following the resignation of Brazilian President Jânio Quadros and the attempted coup to prevent João Goulart from taking office, which was contained with the adoption of parliamentarism.
