The story of an illiterate man and his family, whose existence depends on his income as a horse cab driver. When one of his horses is killed by an automobile, and when it is clear that neither justice nor charity will prevail, the man begins a slow slide into despair.

Based on a true story set in 1948, customs officer Mehti is faced with the duty of formally setting up the border between Turkey and Syria, dividing his hometown. He is unaware of the pain that will eminently unfold, as families, languages, cultures and lovers are both ripped apart and clash head on in a village once united.

Şara was born and raised in Istanbul, is a law student in her final year, and is an educated tribal girl. According to tribal customs, girls are not entitled to inheritance, so after her father's death, her uncles demand that Şara renounce her inheritance, but she refuses. By resisting the injustices committed against defenseless, uneducated women and girls, she finds herself face to face with death. Through her education and love, she will single-handedly defy an entire tribe, shatter their traditions, and bring them to their knees.

Davut's test of love and loyalty, caught between the girl he loves and his one and only mother. University student Davut became a hafiz (memorizer of the Quran) in accordance with his father's final wish before his death. Davut is now a hafiz attending university.
