Lamenting Thebian women are waiting for the men to come back from war. God Jupiter is attracted to one of them: Alkmene. He goes to earth and tries to seduce her as himself: an old man. Failing in this, he disguises himself as Amphitryon (Alkemene's husband) and tries again. Next morning Amphitryon and his men come back from war; he suspects adultery and wants a divorce. Jupiter's wife Juno now also comes to earth and clears things up.

1847. Franz Liszt meets the beautiful princess Caroline von Sayn-Wittgenstein in Kiev. The two fall in love, but the princess is forced to marry an elderly general. When the revolution breaks out in Hungary, she flees with Franz Liszt to Weimar. They also ask the Pope to annul Caroline's unhappy marriage, a question that remains unanswered for the time being. Can Liszt and his princess stay together for long?

The quarrel between the waltz king Joseph Lanner and his still unknown violinist Johann Strauss. It comes to a break. Strauss is engaged in London and has his first successes there. Thanks to the initially unfortunate intervention of Lanner's daughter, a reconciliation is finally achieved.

Mathilde Kratzer owns the entertainment venue "Bei Mathilde" (At Mathilde's). Her roommate Max also has a financial stake in the establishment, but only as a silent partner, which is why he works either as Mathilde's servant or as the bouncer. He would love to rename the venue "Bei Max und Mathilde" (At Max and Mathilde's), but Mathilde would rather return his investment. Because she can't afford to do so, Max is in financial trouble and is being relentlessly pursued by the tax authorities.
