Thirty years have passed since Zhenya and Nadya met—they broke up, and Nadya moved to Leningrad. The friends still go to the bathhouse, and now they are joined by Konstantin, Zhenya's son. Uncle Pasha and Uncle Sasha persuade Kostya to arrange a New Year's miracle for his father and send him to St. Petersburg. Nadya's daughter lives at that very address, and on the same day, her fiancé, Irakli, is planning to propose to her.

The film is a touching story about an Uzbek family who gave shelter to 14 kids evacuated during the World War II while their own child was at the battlefronts.

In the life of every working person, one day there comes a difficult moment associated with retirement. And if this is the head of the supply department of a large plant, to whom the heroine of the film devoted her entire life, it is doubly sad.

The film takes place in Leningrad and Sverdlovsk, in 1970 and 1979. Arriving on a business trip from Sverdlovsk in the Lenfilm, engineer catapults Sergei Gushchin meets a young actress Natasha. She invites him to show Leningrad, but Gushchin and he knows the city - he served here during the war. They are looking for an excuse for further meetings, but he always finds a reason to not to meet with the woman who is many years younger than him and with whom he has fallen in love with. Natasha understands too that she loves this man, but Gushchin leaves, and not daring to associate with her fate. In the end he leaves and only returns to Leningrad nine years later and then he tries to find Natasha again.

It was a time with a rise of artistic life in the former capital of Russia. But the rise ended quickly and tragically with arrests and executions. Modern St. Petersburg and Petrograd of 1921 strangely and intricately intertwine in the mind of the director. The cruel, bloody, but romantic world of the first years of the Revolution converge with the artistic and domestic life of contemporary filmmaking on the same ground, on the same streets and squares.
