Set in Rodeløkka of Kristiania eastside around the year 1900 and is a rough sketch of how it was to be young and unmarried working girl at the time.

The film takes place in the idyllic town of Solsund. Per Haug, a temporary worker, bachelor, amateur painter and leader of the political opposition in the city council, lives there. One day he rushes home from a turbulent city council meeting and angrily paints a portrait of Mayor Abrahamsen.

Siv Blom is a young impulsive girl with a special ability to come up in extraordinary situations. A Norwegian mistaken identity comedy. At Krogheby Manor, owned by the Vinkelkrogh family, four ghosts reside. Per Aabel plays Johnny Vinkelkrogh, who visits his aunt Clementine. He happens to look exactly like one of the ghosts, and confusion ensues when the two are mistaken for each other.

The title of this film "En herre med bart" translates as "A Gentleman with a mustache." It is the the story of a married couple, a hardworking lawyer and his wife. The wife is fed up with the marriage and wants a divorce, something the husband won't let her have.
