Melodramların büyük ustası Douglas Sirk 'in yönettiği 1956 yapımı bir Amerikan filmidir. Robert Wilder 'ın 1946'da yazdığı aynı adlı çok satan romanından sinemaya aktarılmıştır. Romanın o yıllarda ünlü olan melankolik şarkıcı Libby Holman ile bir tütün kralının varisi (Filmde petrol kralı olmuş) Smith Reynolds arasında yaşanmış gerçek bir aşk skandalına dayandırıldığı söylenmektedir.Günümüzün "Dallas" "Hanedan" benzeri TV dizilerinin atası sayılabilecek bu filmde bir petrol kralının oğlu ile aşk yaşayıp evlenen sekreterin (Lauren Bacall) bu garip ve şımarık aile içindeki ilişkileri anlatılmaktadır.
