Told as a film within the film, the story concerns an aging actress. Ewa is a flamboyant, pushy actress whose career and love life have come to a dead end. On his journey, he meets the very colorful character of a retired high school math teacher and a great enthusiast of the horse races. He dreams of returning to America as a somebody, but can only do so after wining a momentous prize. From then on the two friends endeavor to gain success. They discover true friendship. Together they fulfill Franks dream of winning at the horse races, which in turn allows Oliver to buy back his personal freedom. Having recovered from a dramatically ended marriage, the young man is able to open up to a new love.

The film is based on true events. Officers locked in a POW camp make a desperate attempt to get out. A group of daredevils undertake to dig an underground tunnel through which they can escape. We learn about their moral dilemmas, solidarity and loyalty to their friends. This is especially emphasized in the last scenes of the film.

The movie consists of three novellas, the events of which take place during World War II. The first, "White Daisies", tells how a Polish priest saves a Jewish boy who survived a mass shooting. Another movie story, "Desolation," is about a ghetto boy in love who must, by all means, bring wildflowers to his beloved. The third novel, "The Cuckoo's Prediction," is about a prisoner who escapes from a POW camp. He escapes after his bunkmate tells him that he heard him speaking Yiddish in his sleep.

Kryminalni was a Polish crime drama television series that aired on TVN network from September 18, 2004 until May 24, 2008. It ran for 8 seasons and 101 episodes were broadcast in total. It was created by Polish director and screenwriter Piotr Wereśniak and produced by MTL Maxfilm studio. The series followed life and work of police officers from the elite Criminal Terror and Murders Division of the Warsaw Metropolitan Police; the title refers to police officers in the crime section. The three main characters were Adam Zawada, an experienced, tough cup, his younger colleague Marek Brodecki and Barbara Storosz, an ambitious female officer who in the first season joins the team just after graduating. Although none of the main actors had had star status before the series debuted, all three of them rose to prominence and popularity during the 5-year-long run. Many of Poland's best known actors guest starred, usually playing roles of people involved in just one particular investigation. The serial was one of the most popular in Poland: each week it had an audience of 4 million.

The series was a satire to the communist rule in Poland, spoken in a way that it passed through communist censorship office.

The story stretches from 1863 to 1945. Its main characters are representatives of the Pasternik family, who live in the fictional village of Wielowice near Pszczyna. The protagonist of the first three episodes is Franciszek Pasternik, the following parts tell about the fate of his many children and even more grandchildren. The viewer follows their history against the backdrop of great changes and historical events that influenced the lives of Silesian Poles. So there is the Kulturkampf, Prussian rugi, the revolution of 1905, World War I and the Silesian Uprisings.
