Film7.7Derler ki Çin’in kuzeyindeki Manzhouli şehrinde, gün boyunca oturan, dünyayı umursamayan bir fil vardır. Filmin kahramanları için Manzhouli, bir kaçış yeridir. Öğrenci Bu, kendisine durmadan kaba güç gösteren Shuai’i, merdivenden aşağı iterek kaçar. Öte yandan, Bu’nun sınıf arkadaşı Ling, annesinden uzaklaştıkça öğretmenine karşı aşk duyguları beslemeye başlar. Shuai’nin ağabeyi Cheng, bir arkadaşının özkıyımından kendini sorumlu tutar. Bu’nun yaşlı komşusu Bay Wang’ın oğlu, babasını bir bakım evine yatırmak ister. Karakterlerin duygusal sorunlarıyla nihilistik bakış açılarının nedeni, doğrudan ya da dolaylı etkileriyle yaşanan ekonomik çöküntüdür. Romanlarıyla Çin’de dalgalanmalar yaratan Bo Hu, Pekin Film Akademisi’nde yönetmenlik öğrenimi görmüştür. Film, yönetmenin ilk ve son uzun metrajlı çalışmasıdır. Yönetmen, 29 yaşındayken, 2017 yılında, yaşamına kendi eliyle son vermiştir.
