The focus is on Levi Strauss (Vincent Redetzki), who comes to San Francisco in the mid-19th century during the gold rush to try his luck. Together with Jacob Davis (Anton von Lucke), a Jewish tailor from Riga who is almost the same age, he develops the blue jeans that will forever be associated with his name.

The series, made by Xanadu Productions in association with NBC Productions, was created by David Dortort, who had previously created the hit Bonanza for the network.
