Mrs. Gillis, an elderly penniless and lonely woman lives in an old-fashioned house away from the big city. Despite her situation, she is cheerful and calm and copes with everyday difficulties with humor and energy. One day she takes on a young man who reminds her of her deceased son as a housekeeper. Yet Howard Wilton has a mysterious past, prone to violence and hatred, and distrusts anyone who gets in his way. Mrs. Gillis wants to help the young man through trust, affection and understanding.
