Millionaire Áurea Menezes Garcia announces her marriage to the young Astor to her three children. Shortly thereafter, the businesswoman disappears, leaving the civil servant Firmino as her general proxy. From that point on, the plot intertwines the distinct worlds of Áurea and Firmino—whose fiancée, Sarita, is hired to marry Congressman José Maria.
