The story covers many day-to-day events and contrasts the brutality of war against the sometimes futile efforts of the nurses to provide medical aid and comfort. Each of the nurses has a past or present love story with a soldier. Flashback narration and a sequence where the nurses and injured soldiers are stranded in Malinta Tunnel pinned down by aircraft fire are two notable aspects of the film.

Film6.1Can a girl from Little Rock find happiness with a mature French planter she got to know one enchanted evening away from the military hospital where she is a nurse? Or should she just wash that man out of her hair? Bloody Mary is the philosopher of the island and it's hard to believe she could be the mother of Liat who has captured the heart of Lt. Joseph Cable USMC. While waiting for action in the war in the South Pacific, sailors and nurses put on a musical comedy show. The war gets closer and the saga of Nellie Forbush and Emile de Becque becomes serious drama.

Film7.7Birbirlerinden sınıfları, geçmişleri, yaş ve meslekleriyle ayrılan üç eski Amerikan askeri ve onların yeniden sivil hayata ayak uydururken karşılaştıkları sorunlar üzerine dokunaklı bir savaş sonrası destan... Bu üç adam, II. Dünya Savaşı sonunda yaşadıkları kente geri dönerler; başarılı bankacı Al, güvenli yaşamına; eskiden bir garson olup savaşta hava kuvvetlerinde yüzbaşılığa yükselmiş Fred, savaş sırasında evlendiği ve pek iyi tanımadığı eşiyle endişe veren kavuşmaya; eskiden öğrenci olup savaşta kollarını kaybeden Homer ise, sevgilisinin sakatlığına vereceği tepki konusundaki şüphelerine. Bunlardan ikisi geri dönüşte başarılı olacaktır: eskiden olduğu gibi yemekli toplantılarda konuşmalar yapan Al genç bir çiftçiye teminatsız kredi vermeye çekinmez; Homer’in sevgilisi onu hayal kırıklığına uğratmaz; kimsenin kabul etmediği Fred ise toplumun dışında kalacaktır, hayatının en güzel yıllarını geride bırakmıştır...
