Pinter senaryoyu F. Scott Fitzgerald'ın hayattayken bitiremediği ve ölümünden bir yıl sonra, 1941'de yayımlanan aynı adlı son romanından uyarlamıştır. Film Oscar Ödüllü yönetmen Elia Kazan'ın da son filmidir.
