Saygın bir gazeteci olan John Klein eşi Mary ile birlikte yeni bir ev aldıktan sonra dönüş yolundadır. Arabayı kullanan eşi önünde anlam veremediği bir varlık görür ve kontolü kaybeder. Ciddi şekilde yaralanan Mary birkaç gün sonra hastanede hayata veda eder. Ölmeden önce gördüğü şeyin resimlerini yapmıştır. Aradan iki yıl geçer.
