Dorian Gray yaptığı hiçbir kötülükten kendini sorumlu tutmamakta, fakat her olaydan sonra portredeki yüzünde farklı bir kişilik belirmektedir. Yirmi yıl boyunca müthiş bir sefahat içinde yaşar. Portre artık bütün suçlarının izlerini taşımaktadır. Bunun ruhunda yarattığı bunalıma dayanamayan Dorian Gray, sonunda portreye bir bıçak saplar ve orada ölür.
