Film 60’larda iki kenar mahalle çocuğunun seçtiği iki ayrı yolu takip eder.Fotoğrafçı olma hayalleri kurar ama fotoğraf makinesi alacak parası yoktur. Öte yandan, Küçük Ze çocukluğundan beri tam bir suçlu özellikleri taşır; acımasız, akıllı ve hırslıdır. Küçük yaşta planladığı bir genelev soygunu sırasında öldürmenin tadını alır, gün geçtikçe bu konudaki iştahı giderek artar. 70’lerde Ze, sakin ve becerikli Bee’nin desteğiyle, favela’nın (mahallenin) uyuşturucu ticareti üzerindeki kontrolünü sağlamlaştırır. 80’lerin başlarında “Tanrıkent”i çetelerarası savaş sarar ve amansız genç suçlulardan oluşan yeni bir kuşak çıkıp “eskilerin” yerini almaya çalışırken, artık bir fotoğraf makinesine sahip olan Rocket, onu bu bitmek tükenmek bilmez katliam döngüsünü belgelemede kullanır...

Yuda, a Chinese immigrant, and his adopted son Kirin, who he saved being eaten by a tiger in the jungle, stand at the head of a massive pirated goods operation that brings in both money and influence. But their empire is crumbling, as corrupt politicians and rival gangs seek to end their power in the city. Yuda is soon got arrested and his dedicated son tries his best to save not just the family business, but his father's reputation.

Two young boys, Laranjinha and Acerola, living in Cidade de Deus, one of the most violent neighborhoods in Rio de Janeiro, need some money to go to a concert. The "easiest" (and most dangerous) way to get it is working for some drug-dealers.

The series is based on the award-winning Brazilian film City of God, which itself was nominated for Oscars in four categories, including Best Director for Fernando Meireles. Based on the story of two friends, Laranjinha and Acerola, who live adventurous and dangerous lives in a Rio de Janeiro slum, 'City of Men' brings into sharp relief the condition of children and adolescents in these areas, realistically yet with a dose of humor.
