Eric Rohmer’in ‘Ahlak Üzerine Altı Öykü’ (Six Moral Tales) serisinden ilham alan genç yönetmen Puiu, benzer bir şekilde Bay Lazarescu’nun Ölümü’nü Bükreş banliyölerinde geçen altı filmden oluşacak bir serinin ilk filmi olarak kurgulamış. Bay Lazarescu Bükreş’te bir apartman dairesinde tek başına, üç kedisiyle yaşayan 60’lı yaşlarında bir alkoliktir. Bir gece mide krampları ve bulantısıyla uyanınca acil servisi çağırır ve beklemeye başlar.
