In the UK, Channel 5 broadcast the first season between December 2010 and April 2011. While convalescing in New Zealand, British aristocrat Sir Charles Pemberton schemes to build a thermal spa in the town of Wainamu, but conflict ensues as the spa's planned location is on Māori land. It was winner of Best Comedy Performance, Script and Direction - NZ TV Awards In 2002, a TV Guide poll found the series to be the most popular New Zealand comedy. The series' most prominent fan base is made up of women over the age of 60.
